Step-by-Step: How to Join Torch & Laurel Honor Society If...
Read MoreThe Society of Torch & Laurel is a community-based honors program launched in 2013 by The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) to recognize high-achieving high school students while providing expertise, insight, motivation, inspiration, and vital tools to make better decisions about creating an ideal future. The organization exists to make a difference for students and their families.
I started the National Society of Collegiate Scholars in 1994 to recognize high-achieving first and second-year college students. Transitioning from high school to college can be challenging. I wanted there to be an honor society that supports academic success and college preparation by recognizing students who make this leap and offering scholarship opportunities, leadership development, and service experiences.
The idea of NSCS has grown into more than 300 chapters across the U.S. and over 1.5 million high-achieving members. It has become a thriving student community focused on making a meaningful impact.
In 2013, another idea emerged when NSCS members reflected on the support they wished they had during high school—guidance on how to explore colleges, how to apply for scholarships, how to manage college costs, and how to develop leadership skills for college and beyond.
Hearing those stories, I realized the need to support high school students in their academic journey, which led to the launch of the Society of Torch & Laurel.
Torch & Laurel is here to help you, the high-achieving student, prepare for college success, explore scholarship opportunities, and grow as a leader. I hope you’ll join this community as you take your next steps toward a bright future.
Torch & Laurel happens because of the great team dedicated to your success.
The Torch represents the ability for each of us to serve as a guiding light for others and for the ability of education to serve as a beacon of light, eradicating ignorance. May our scholars always remember that lighting the way for others, brightens the path for themselves.
The Laurel serves to remind our scholars that they are part of a long and noble tradition of distinguished scholars. May our scholars uphold their place in history by living up to the honor bestowed upon them.
The Double Circles represent the circles of support and influence that surround us, including family and friends, teachers and advocates. May our scholars recognize, value and appreciate their supporters and seek to serve in that capacity for others
