What Actually Makes a College Application Stand Out?
If you’re getting ready to apply to college, you’ve probably heard the same advice over and over: get good grades, stay involved, write a strong essay, and submit everything on time.
But what actually makes an admissions team stop and take notice of an application?
Torch & Laurel members have the opportunity to find out directly from someone who has been on the other side of the college admissions process.
On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Torch & Laurel is teaming up with The Princeton Review for a live, members-only webinar focused on helping high school students navigate the college application process and find ways to stand out.
Get an Inside Look at College Admissions
Our featured speaker, Kristine Cather, is a UC Berkeley graduate and The Princeton Review’s Director of National Partnerships.
Kristine brings a unique perspective to the college application conversation because she has actually served on admissions committees, reviewed confidential applicant files, and made recommendations for admission or denial.
During this live session, she’ll take what she has learned from those experiences and help students better understand the application process from the admissions side of the table.
You’ll learn more about:
- What college admissions teams may notice when reviewing applications
- How to tell your story beyond your grades and list of activities
- Ways to help your application stand out
- How to approach the application process with more confidence
- Practical tips you can use as you prepare to apply
You’ll also have the opportunity to hear Kristine’s insights live and get answers to questions about the college application process.
